Description

You will need this licence if you intend to use premises as a morgue. A morgue is a building used to temporarily keep bodies of the dead for lawful purposes including viewing, examination and identification prior to before burial or cremation.

Exemptions

This licence does not include morgues in public hospitals, council or police buildings.

Eligibility requirements

An applicant for this licence must:

  • Apply in writing together with the relevant fees;
  • Include a floor plan and specifications of the morgue;
  • Give notice of the application to the public;
  • Constructed the walls of stone or brickwork;
  • Cover the walls are covered with glazed tiles or is rendered impervious so as to be non-absorbent and washable; and
  • Ensure the facility meets the City's health and safety requirements.
