Licence to Keep a Kennel Establishment - Western Australia

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to operate a kennel or keep more than the prescribed number of dogs on your premises. The prescribed number of dogs can differ between councils. Your premises will be inspected by the Council ranger to determine if it is suitable for the proposed purpose.

Be aware that where current complaints have been received about dogs on your property, applications may not be supported by the Council.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a kennel licence you must:

  • Provide evidence of town planning approval obtained from the local government;
  • Plans and specifications of the kennel establishment, including a site plan; and
  • Evidence that the proposal to construct a kennel has been advertised in the district newspaper within 14 days of applying for the licence.
