Licence to Keep a Kennel Establishment - Western Australia

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to operate a kennel or keep more than the prescribed number of dogs on your premises. The prescribed number of dogs can differ between councils. Your premises will be inspected by the Council ranger to determine if it is suitable for the proposed purpose.

Be aware that where current complaints have been received about dogs on your property, applications may not be supported by the Council.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • Submit the required supporting documentation (such as site plans and written acknowledgement that you will comply with relevant Codes of Practice);
  • Provide public notice of your intention to use the premises as a kennel; and
  • Demonstrate that you or your employee(s) reside on the premises, or are sufficiently close to the premises so as to control the dogs and ensure their health and welfare.
