You will require this registration if you intend to harvest timber or transport log timber harvested in in a State forest or timber reserve. Some of the categories of timber worker for which registration is required include:
- chainsaw operator
- log haulier
- tree marker
- skyline operator.
You will not require this licence to undertake the following activities:
- take forest produce from a State forest or timber reserve under a forest produce licence
- remove firewood from a State forest or timber reserve
- transport forest product under a forest produce licence.
It is an offence to employ or contract an unregistered person to harvest timber from, or transport log timber in a State forest or timber reserve. If you intend to operate a business to harvest or transport timber from State forests or timber reserve you will need to ensure that each of your employees and contractors are registered.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.
To be eligible for this registration you must:
- have successfully completed a course of recognised training relevant to your role
- provide any other information requested by the Agency
- complete the required forms
- pay any relevant fees.
You may be ineligible for this licence if you have been convicted of an offence relating to timber harvesting or the transport of timber, or conservation, or if you have previously had your registration cancelled.
