Street Trader's Permit - Western Australia

Service summary

You will require this permit if you intend to trade in public places. A public place includes any street reserve, parking station or private property to which the public has access.

Trading includes selling or hiring of goods, wares, merchandise or services or offering goods, wares, merchandise, services for sale or hire, in a street or other public place. It also covers displaying goods, wares or merchandise for the purpose of offering them for sale or hire, inviting offers for sale or hire, soliciting orders or carrying out any other transaction.

You may not require this permit if you are operating from a stall licensed by the council, or at a licensed street market.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.


Charity organisations may be exempt from holding this type of permit.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you must submit:

  • Details of the people employed or engaged in trading at any one time;
  • A plan of the proposed location or a description of the route or areas along in which the you intend to trade;
  • Details of the days and hours of operation;
  • Details of the proposed goods or services to be traded under the trading permit;
  • If any stall is used, a detailed and accurate plan and description; and
  • If the you are part of a corporation, the name and address of the person responsible for complying with any terms and conditions of the licence.
