Security Agent Licence - Western Australia

Service summary

You will require this licence if you intend to act as a Security Agent. A Security Agent is a person who advertises or supplies the products or services of:

  • Security Officers;
  • Security Bodyguards;
  • Security Consultants; and / or
  • Security Installers.

Please note that this licence does not authorise you to work in these types of security services. It only allows you to advertise or supply these services. A separate licence is required to work in each of these areas. If you are a sole trader, you require both this licence, and extra licenses for each type of security work you intend to carry out.

This licence may only be issued to individuals, but an individual may hold this licence on behalf of a partnership or a body corporate.

If you are an interstate visitor and hold an equivalent licence in your home state or territory, you may apply for a temporary licence of up to one year. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • Be over the age of 18 years;
  • Provide two personal character references;
  • Provide four passport size photographs;
  • Be deemed to be a fit and proper person of good character;
  • Undertake a Pre-Licence Test;
  • Provide evidence that you have sufficient financial resources to meet your financial obligations;
  • Obtain a letter from the company, partnership or business which is to receive the licence, stating the intention to provide Security Services and giving you the authority to be the Security Agent (where relevant);
  • Agree to the Security Industry Code of Conduct;
  • Complete the required forms; and
  • Pay the prescribed fees.

You may be required to give your fingerprints and palm prints.

Licences are initially issued for one or three years. Licences are renewed for three year periods thereafter.

You must submit your application form in person. Do not sign your form until you present it to the licensing agency.

Approval time

New applications will be processed in 30 working days. Renewals and endorsements will be processed in 20 working days.
