Registration and transfer of livestock brands - Queensland

Description

You will need this registration to use your own livestock brand or earmark. You must brand or earmark your livestock under the following circumstances:

  • Cattle must be branded to be sold once they are over 100kg live weight. All brands must be registered in the user's name and at the nominated properties prior to use.
  • Pigs of 30kg or more live weight must be tattooed before sale in Queensland. Tattoos will be registered to owners for use on nominated holdings.

The following brands or earmarks are optional, but are used as proof of ownership:

  • branding of horses
  • earmarking of cattle
  • branding and earmarking of sheep and goats
  • symbol branding.

The purchase of a property does not result in the automatic transfer of brands or earmarks.

Registered horse and cattle 3 piece brands and symbol brands can be used anywhere in Queensland providing they don't conflict with neighbour's brands and provided the registered owner notifies the department of any intended change to location.

Pig brands, cattle earmarks, sheep brands and sheep earmarks can only be used in assigned earmark districts.
