Class B Gaming Machine Licence and Authorisation Certificate - Australian Capital Territory

Description

There is a new licensing framework in place that is phasing out Class B gaming machines in the ACT. As part of this process, current class B licensees are now given the opportunity to trade (sell) their authorisation certificates. Authorisation certificates provide the maximum number of authorisation for gaming machines for a specific venue. Class B gaming machines are machines that play the game of draw poker, or a game derived from draw poker, that requires player interaction or intervention as part of the fundamental game operation.

No new Class B licences, authorisation certificates or authorisations are being granted. The only way you can obtain Class B gaming machine licence / certificate to access the new trading scheme and buy them from current licensees. You must be a Class C licence holder to do this. If you are a Class B licence holder you are not eligible. However, existing class B licensees (and new applicants) can apply in circumstances where an existing hotel or tavern that operates class B gaming machines proposes to sell their business. This is known as a restricted licence / authorisation.

When class B authorisations have been sold, they will then be converted to class C and you can then acquire a class C gaming machine. The physical gaming machine cannot be sold with the authorisation and must be disposed of after the authorisation is sold.

Along with your Authorisation Certificate you will also be issued with individual authorisations for each gaming machine and an authorisation schedule which is a summary of all authorisations and gaming machines at your venue.
