Registration of Premises for Dangerous Substances - Australian Capital Territory


You will require this registration if you operate a business where handling or storage of a dangerous substance is likely to occur in the course of manufacture, trade or commerce at a premises. A dangerous substance includes, but is not limited to:

  • An explosive substance or article;
  • A dangerous good;
  • A combustible liquid;
  • A hazardous substance; or
  • Declared by regulation or by the Agency to be a dangerous substance.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration you must:

  • Submit an application form showing details of the premises, dangerous substance, handling involved and any other conditions or exemptions relevant;
  • Ensure that all people at the premises take reasonable steps to minimise the risks involved;
  • Comply with any requirements or instructions regarding safety and risk management, handling, labelling and behaviour;
  • Submit documentation outlining your Safety Management System;
  • Supply any information or documents required under current legislation; and
  • Pay the relevant application fees.
