You may be required to apply for this certificate if you intend to operate an aerodrome. An aerodrome is an area of land or water, including any buildings, installations and equipment, which is used wholly or partly for the arrival, departure or movement of aircraft.
You will only need to apply for this certificate if the aerodrome has a runway suitable for use by an aircraft that has a maximum:
- passenger seating capacity of more than 30
- carrying capacity of more than 3 400 kilograms
and is available for use in regular public transport operations or charter operations.
The option for aerodrome certification is available to all aerodromes provided they meet the conditions of certification. Aerodromes that do not need an aerodrome certificate may still apply to be registered. Aerodromes available for public use with a non-precision approach runway must be certified or registered.
