Aircraft Maintenance Authority - Australian Government


You may require an aircraft maintenance authority if you are a licensed aircraft engineer. Maintenance authorities allow you to carry out maintenance on a particular aircraft that is of a type that is not covered by your Aircraft Engineer Licence (AEL). You may be required to hold more than one maintenance authority, whilst you work towards improving the scope of your AEL.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authority you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old (unless otherwise approved);
  • Be able to speak, read and write English;
  • Not suffer from a disability that is likely to affect your technical skill or judgement;
  • Have the appropriate experience and training for the type of maintenance for which the MA is required; and
  • Have passed the required written, oral and /or practical tests.
