You may be required to comply with this standard if you intend apply for a refrigerant air-conditioning (RAC) industry permit.
A RAC industry permit means any of the following:
- refrigerant handling licence
- refrigerant trading authorisation
- RAC equipment manufacturing authorisation
- halon special permit
- restricted refrigerant trading authorisation.
To be eligible for a permit you must demonstrate your knowledge of any standard relevant to work to be carried out under your permit. You must carry out any work under a permit in accordance with the relevant standard.
This standard specifies requirements for the safety aspects, in terms of the design, construction, installation and inspection of refrigerating appliances, systems and ancillary equipment intended for use or installation in institutional, public assembly, residential, commercial and industrial occupancies. It applies to new refrigerating systems, to extensions and modifications of existing systems and to used systems on being reinstalled and operated at another site. It also applies in the case of the conversion of a system for use with another refrigerant.
