Australian and International Lifejacket Standards - Australian Government


You will be required to comply with one of these standards if you operate a pilot launch. A pilot launch is a vessel that is transferring a pilot to or from a ship for the purpose of piloting.

A pilot or crew member working on the deck of a pilot launch must be provided with a personal flotation device that meets the requirements of any of the following National Standards:

  • Australian Standard AS 4758
  • ISO 12402-1
  • European Standard EN399-1993 Lifejackets-275N
  • European Standard EN396-1993 Lifejackets-150N
  • New Zealand Standards NZ5823:2005 Type 401.
