Australian Standards for Components of Machinery Space Lifting Gear - Australian Government


You will be required to comply with these standards if you operate an Australian registered SOLAS ship.

A SOLAS ship is a ship to which the Safety of Life at Sea Convention (SOLAS) applies (all ships entitled to fly the flag of Australia).

Machinery space lifting gear must not be used until it has been tested, examined and certificated:

  • For wire rope slings, in accordance with Australian Standard AS 1666
  • For Cranes, hoists and winches, in accordance with Australian Standard AS 1418.11
  • For eyebolts, in accordance with Australian Standard AS 2317.
