Billing Agent Approval / Registration - Australian Government


You will require this approval if you intend to operate as a billing agent to claim benefits from Medicare or private health funds on behalf of your patients.

Billing agents must be approved by Medicare and can be a fund, a hospital, an individual or an organisation.

In the event that Medicare, or a private health fund, does not cover the total cost of services the patient may be required to pay the difference.

Eligibility requirements

If you are applying as a corporation, you will need to include a copy of the Certificate of Incorporation. You must submit evidence of the establishment of a trust account or compartmentalised trust account to receive payments on behalf of others. You must also submit search results from the Bankruptcy Register and the Disqualified Directors Register.
