Certificate of Proficiency - Australian Government


You will require this certificate if you intend to work on a regulated Australian vessel, domestic commercial vessel or a recreational vessel that has Australian nationality. There are different categories of proficiency certificates that can be issued, you will require a specific one in accordance with the type of work you intend to do on board.

The different categories of certificates of proficiency available are:

  • chief Integrated Rating
  • integrated Rating
  • survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
  • ship security officer
  • fast rescue boats.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for a certificate of proficiency you must:

  • have completed an approved program of training
  • have the appropriate knowledge for the duties you undertake
  • submit the required form with requirements
  • Be certified for medical fitness
  • provide evidence of ability to the Agency.
