Controlled Use Permit - Australian Government

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to use industrial chemicals that meet certain criteria regarding controlled use, please see the Agency website for examples. When applying for this permit the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) require the following evidence when determining the hazard criteria:

  • eco-toxicity test report
  • published literature data
  • eco-toxicity test report for an accepted close analogue
  • published literature data for an accepted close analogue
  • quantitative structure-activity relationship data generated for the chemical by an appropriate and validated model.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Chemicals with the following hazard classifications are ineligible for a controlled use permit:

  • Carcinogenic effects
  • Mutagen effects
  • Reproductive effects
  • Very toxic and toxic acute lethal effects
  • Corrosive effects
  • Sensitising effects
  • Non-lethal irreversible effects after a single exposure
  • Severe effects after repeated or prolonged exposure.

Duration

Duration of up to three years. Approved duration may vary depending on individual circumstances and must be justified in your application.
