Flight Engineer Licences - Australian Government

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to perform the duties of a flight engineer in the aviation industry. Flight engineers assist aircraft pilots and engineering maintenance staff by operating aircraft instruments and systems.

Whilst the licence authorises you to undertake the duties of a flight engineer, you must also be endorsed for the specific class of aircraft that you will be operating in.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Meet the requirements for the grant of at least one flight engineer type rating;
  • Have passed the aeronautical knowledge examination for the flight engineer licence;
  • Have completed flight training for the flight engineer licence;
  • Passed the relevant flight test;
  • Have completed at least 100 hours of aeronautical experience performing the duties of a flight engineer under the direct supervision of a flight engineer instructor; and
  • Must have completed an approved course of training in multi-crew cooperation.

You are taken to have passed the relevant flight test if you hold:

  • A commercial pilot licence with the aeroplane category rating;
  • A pilot type rating for an aeroplane that is certificated for multi-crew operation; and
  • You have completed at least 50 hours of flight training performing the duties of a flight engineer under the direct supervision of a flight engineer instructor.
