You may be required to comply with this standard if you operate a ship registered in Australia, or any ship in the territorial sea of Australia.

The owner of a ship must ensure that all software and hardware used for accessing official electronic versions of nautical publications complies with the recommendations of MSC/Circ.891 Guidelines for the onboard use and application of computers.
