International Maritime Order Code on Intact Stability - Australian Government


You may require this code if you intend to design or construct ships. Ships constructed after 1 July 2010 must demonstrate compliance with the relevant provisions of this code.

It presents mandatory and recommended stability criteria and other measures for ensuring the:

  • safe operation of ships
  • minimisation of risks on board ships
  • safety of personnel on board and to the environment.

Please note that the Agency has advised that this Code is called up in Marine Orders - Part 43: Cargo and Cargo Handling Livestock. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
