International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Guidelines for Vessel Traffic Services - Australian Government

You will be required to comply with these guidelines if you intend to provide a vessel traffic service.

You must obtain the authorisation of the agency before operating a vessel traffic service (VTS). A VTS authority applies within a specific VTS area.

The agency will not grant an authority unless it is satisfied that you can meet the responsibilities of a VTS authority mentioned in the Guidelines for Vessel Traffic Services.

Compliance with the guidelines is an ongoing condition of authorisation.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
