Marine Order 94 (Marine Pollution Prevention - Packaged Harmful Substances) - Australian Government

You must comply with this order if you intend to operate an Australian vessel for commercial or recreational purposes within Australian waters.

This order establishes the guidelines for the prevention of harmful substances from entering the marine environment. Harmful substances refer to substances which are identified as pollutants within the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code.

This order gives effect to MARPOL Annex III, which is an international code for the prevention of pollution by packaged harmful substances. The code establishes requirements for good operational practice, including advice on terminology, packing, labelling, stowage, segregation, handling, and emergency response action.

If you are carrying solid bulk cargoes which are harmful to the marine environment, you will have to classify and declare. The criteria for determining the classification of the cargoes has been inserted into Appendix I to Annex V of MARPOL

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
