Poisons Standard - Australian Government

You may be required to comply with this standard if you intend to work with poisons and medicines. The standard consists of decisions regarding the classification of medicines and poisons into Schedules for inclusion in the relevant legislation of the States and Territories. The standard aims to promote uniform scheduling of substances and uniform labelling and packaging requirements throughout Australia.

The standard:

  • establishes requirements for containers and labelling
  • recommends other controls regarding drugs and poisons.

Please note that this standard is comprised of previous standards, including the Poisons Standards published in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 which may still be updated from time to time.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
