Radiocommunications (406 MHz Satellite Distress Beacons) Standard 2014 - Australian Government

Description

You will be required to comply with this standard if you intend to manufacture, supply, sell or modify a 406 MHz satellite distress beacon.

The purpose of this standard is to ensure radiocommunications equipment achieves a satisfactory level of performance prior to use. The technical requirements of this standard are drawn from both:

  • AS/NZS 4280.1:2017 406 MHz satellite distress beacons, Part 1: Marine emergency position-indicating radio beacons (EPIRB) (IEC 61097-2:2002, MOD)
  • AS/NZS 4280.2:2003 406 MHz satellite distress beacons, Part 2: Personal locator beacons (PLBs).

Please note that if you are importing a radiocommunication device for the sole purpose of use at a significant event it may be exempt from this standard.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance that may be required.
