Registered Telecommunications Cabler - Open - Australian Government

Description

You will require this registration, or be supervised by a registered person, if you intend to undertake telecommunications cabling work (e.g. cabling for telephones, data, fire or security alarm systems). The open registration covers all aerial, underground, structured, fibre or coaxial cabling work where the cabling used terminates at:

  • the network boundary on a socket
  • a network termination device
    or
  • a distributor (Building distributor, campus distributor, etc.).

If you intend to work in both commercial and domestic premises you will require an open registration.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration you must:

  • meet the relevant competency requirements
  • have completed the relevant qualifications
  • proof of practical (on-the-job) cabling experience of 360 hours
  • have registered with an accredited registrar.

If you only have a minimum of 80 hours, in addition to any experience that was gained in the training undertaken to acquire the competencies for registration, you will be registered as a Restricted cabler until you have gained a further 280 hours of on-the-job cabling experience.

You may also need to provide proof of successful completion of the cabling regulations test.
