Remotely Piloted Aircraft Licence - Australian Government

Description

You may need this licence if you intend to operate remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) for commercial, government or research purposes.

You will not need this licence if you intend to flying RPA for recreational or sporting purposes.

You will not need this licence if you intend to fly very small (<2kg) RPA. If you intend to operate very small RPA for commercial purposes you only have to provide notification to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) at least five days before the first commercial flight and operate by the standard operating conditions.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

There are two options to obtain this licence. If you have no prior aviation knowledge you will need to complete a Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Controller Certificate focused entirely on the operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) through a CASA approved training provider. If you have prior aviation knowledge you may already satisfy the minimum requirements for a UAV Controllers Certificate.
