National Code of Practice for the Control of Workplace Hazardous Substances - Australian Capital Territory

Description

You will be required to comply with this code if your workplace uses or produces hazardous substances or if there is the potential for exposure to hazardous substances. This code aims to minimise the risk of adverse health effects due to exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace.

The list of designated hazardous substances outlines what substances are classified as hazardous. By being classified as hazardous they are automatically classified as dangerous. It should be noted that there is an inconsistency clause listed in the Act where regulations that are in conflict with approved codes of practice are to be complied with. Any requirement of this code that is in conflict with what a regulation states may be disregarded, and the regulation complied with.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance that may be required.
