Note that this standard has been updated and you will need to meet the requirements set out in AS / NZS 60335.2.40:2019.
You may be required to comply with this standard if you intend to apply for a refrigerant air-conditioning (RAC) industry permit.
RAC industry permits include:
- refrigerant handling licences
- refrigerant trading authorisations
- RAC equipment manufacturing authorisations
- halon special permits
- restricted refrigerant trading authorisations.
To be eligible for a permit, you must demonstrate your knowledge of any standard relevant to work to be carried out under your permit. You must carry out any work under a permit in accordance with the relevant standard.
The standard deals with the safety of electric heat pumps, including sanitary hot water heat pumps, air-conditioners, and dehumidifiers incorporating motor-compressors and hydronic room fan coils, their maximum rated voltages being not more than 250 V for single phase appliances and 600 V for all other appliances.
