Code of Practice for the Disposal of Radioactive Wastes by the User (1985) - Australian Government

You will be required to comply with this code if you hold a source or facility licence and you intend to dispose of controlled materials or controlled apparatus.

This code outlines the necessity to manage radioactive wastes in such a way that the exposure to persons from radiation is as low as reasonably achievable and below prescribed limits. It recommends practices for small quantities of radioactive waste to ensure a degree of uniformity in radioactive waste disposal procedures.

The code is concerned with radioactive wastes containing relatively low levels of radioactivity, or radionuclides of short half-life, such as those generated by many current medical, industrial and research uses of radioactivity in Australia.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance that may be required.
