You may be required to comply with this standard if you intend to operate an offshore petroleum facility.
An offshore petroleum facility is a vessel or structure located at a site in Commonwealth waters which is used for:
- the recovery, processing, storage and offloading of petroleum
- drilling or servicing a well for petroleum
- laying pipes for petroleum
- other purposes related to offshore petroleum operations.
You must not allow a member of your workforce to be exposed to a level of noise that exceeds the noise exposure standard set out in this Standard. The national standard for exposure to noise in the occupational environment is an average daily exposure level of 85 decibels.
Please note that exposing members of your workforce to a level of noise that exceeds the noise exposure standard is not an offence if the noise exposure is managed in accordance with the provisions of the National Code of Practice for Noise Management and Protection of Hearing at Work.
