Authorised Taxi-Cab Inspection Stations (ATIS) Examiner - New South Wales


You will require this authorisation if you intend to conduct taxi inspection services. These inspections ensure the safety and quality of vehicles used to supply taxi services to the public. An examiner's role includes checking:

  • vehicle age
  • livery and decals
  • air conditioner operation
  • taxi meter operation
  • interior and exterior conditions
  • operation of safety equipment specific to taxis.

Please be aware that you can only hold an authorisation to inspect taxis at a nominated garage. If you leave a nominated garage then your authorisation is void.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this authorisation you must be a mechanic who has been approved by the Agency for the purpose of conducting inspections and tests of registrable light vehicles.

The applicant must be:

  • a light vehicle Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS) examiner
  • an authorised LPG examiner.
