Notification of Alternative Fuel Sources in Cruise Ships - New South Wales

Description

If you are the master or owner of a cruise ship that is unable to use low sulfur fuel, you must notify the Authority. For example, where all reasonable steps have been taken to obtain low sulfur fuel but none is available, or in the event of an emergency or unforseen technical problems.

From October 2015, all cruise ships are required to use low sulfur fuel (0.1 percent of less) while berthed in Sydney Harbour.

You are also required to notify the Authority if you operate a cruise ship that uses Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as your primary fuel source. All notifications must be made at least 48 hours prior to the ship's arrival at a berth in Sydney Harbour, or if this is not possible, as soon as practicable after arriving.
