You will require this Tradesperson's Certificate if you intend to work as a tradesperson carrying out repair work on motor vehicles. Repair work means work of a class or classes prescribed by the Motor Dealers and Repairers Regulation 2014. Repair includes examine, detect faults in, adjust, carry out maintenance on, overhaul, replace, alter and paint.
Classes of repair work for which a Tradesperson's Certificate may be issued are: automotive electrician, body maker, compressed natural gas mechanic, liquefied natural gas mechanic, liquefied petroleum gas mechanic, motorcycle mechanic, motor mechanic, panelbeater, transmission specialist, underbody work, and vehicle painter.
A Tradesperson's Certificate is not required to carry out repair work in the class of repair work of trailer and caravan mechanic. The repair work must however be carried out at a place for which a motor vehicle repairer licence is granted.
