Geothermal Energy Act Authority - Northern Territory

Description

Any person intending to undertake activities relating to geothermal energy must first obtain the relevant Geothermal Authority.

There are three types of Geothermal Energy Act Authorities:

Exploration Permit
An Exploration Permit gives the holder the right to occupy the permit area and the exclusive right to conduct an approved exploration program for geothermal energy resources.

Retention Licence
A Retention Licence gives the holder the right to occupy the licence area and the exclusive right to conduct activities to evaluate the potential of the geothermal resources in the area but not the right to produce geothermal energy commercially.

Production Lease
A Production Lease gives the holder the right to occupy the lease area and the exclusive right to conduct activities related to the production of geothermal energy and power generation.
