Accreditation as an Authorised Identifier - New South Wales

Description

You will need this accreditation if you intend to use microchip technology to identify companion animals (such as dogs and cats). You may require this accreditation if you are:

  • a veterinary practitioner
  • an animal welfare employee
  • a council employee that handles animals
  • a breeder.

If you are a qualified veterinary practitioner, you may apply for this accreditation by completing the necessary application form. If you are not a qualified veterinary practitioner, you must complete an approved training program before you are eligible for accreditation.

  • be qualified and competent.

If you are not a qualified veterinary practitioner, you must:

  • pass an approved training course
  • be considered qualified and competent.

When you complete the required training, the registered training organisation will apply for accreditation on your behalf.

Approval time

Please allow 28 days for your application to be processed.

Additional information

If your application for accreditation is refused, you have the right to contact the Departmental Chief Executive by writing to review the decision.

Approved training courses are provided by the following organisations:

  • NSW Technical and Further Education Commission (TAFE NSW)
  • Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA NSW)
  • Animal Welfare League (AWL NSW)
  • any other approved organisation.
