Authority to Supply Opiates to Patients - New South Wales

Description

You will require this authority if you intend to prescribe opiods to patients. There are two types of authorisation:

  • Authorisation to enrol a patient in the chemical opioid treatment program (e.g. methadone, buprenorphine and buprenorphine-naloxone)
  • Authorisation to supply a patient with take home naloxone.
Take home naloxone can be supplied by an appropriatly trained healthworker (e.g. registered nurse, Aboriginal health practitioner, social worker) but only medical doctors, psychiatrist or pharmacists can enrol a patient in an opiod treatment program.
