You will need this licence if you intend to harm fauna for commercial purposes (for example, to sell meat and skin products). This licence is most commonly issued for kangaroo hunting.
Fauna are animals, including any mammal, bird, reptile or amphibian. Harming an animal includes hunting, shooting, poisoning, netting, snaring, spearing, pursuing, capturing, trapping, injuring or killing it, but does not include harm caused by changing the habitat of the animal.
This licence permits you to sell animal carcasses for either pet food or human consumption. All animals must be killed by professional harvesters who hold the appropriate qualifications.
Please note that:
- this licence can be restricted to certain species
- unless this licence expressly states otherwise, it does not authorise the harming of fauna in any land identified as reserved land under the Act
- this licence does not authorise the harming of threatened species, populations or ecological communities
- if you intend to use a carcass chiller (for instance a refrigerated device for storing animal carcasses) in connection with your activities it must be registered with the Agency. Please note that the chiller does not need to be registered if it is on a registered premises.
