Certifying Engineer (Structural) Registration - Northern Territory

Description

This registration enables the holder to certify the design and/or construction of all classes of buildings or structures and component elements, in accordance with the structural provisions of the Building Code of Australia.

A Certifying Engineer is required to hold professional indemnity insurance to the value of $1 million and be a type considered acceptable to the Building Practitioners Board.

If a corporation or firm is registered as a certifying engineer, then they must have a nominated individual who is also registered in the same category.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

A person who holds either:
(a) a degree or other educational qualification, required for membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia as a professional engineer eligible to use the post nominals MIEAust; and at least 3 years practical experience in the design of and supervision of the construction of structural engineering works for buildings, including (i) at least 12 months practical experience in the design of structural engineering works for buildings; and (ii) at least 12 months practical experience in the supervision of the construction of structural engineering works for buildings; or
(b) a certificate of registration as a structural engineer on the National Professional Engineers Register - (NPER)
