Licence to Possess, Cultivate, Process or Supply Low THC Hemp for Commercial Purposes - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence in order to possess, cultivate, process or supply low tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) hemp for commercial purposes. THC holds a psychoactive component and low THC hemp refers to hemp plants with a THC concentration of less than one per cent in the leaves, flowering heads or seeds. Supplying low THC hemp means to distribute, give, trade or transport.

There are three types of licence:

  • commercial licence
  • class A research licence - for the research of industrial hemp
  • class B research licence - for the research of hemp.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a suitable person to hold a licence. To be considered suitable, you must be fit and proper which means you have not been found guilty of an indictable offence involving dishonesty, found guilty indictable on specified drug offences
  • live in Australia
  • be able to have a cultivation area of at least two hectares
  • have property owner consent if you are not the property owner
  • not be affected by bankruptcy.
