A licence may be required in order to take or use ground water other than for stock or domestic purposes. Beneficial uses include: agriculture, industry, public water supply, cultural, industry, mining activity, petroleum activity and environment. Non-landowners will require the consent of the landowner to take water.
Criteria stipulating location and water quantities to be extracted may apply. Requirements within a Water Control District may vary.
Applicants are advised to consult with the Water Licensing Officer of the relevant region (Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs) prior to applying.
