Description

The department  provides building standards advice and information to promote and improve, through each level of government, a regulatory-based framework that enhances and gives incentives to building industry performance.

The department provides Newsflashes, Guidelines and Newsletters which provide explanation and commentary on the minimum standards for design and construction of buildings as contained in the Building Act, Standards, Regulations and the Building Code of Australia. They also provide information and advice, in an educational role to Local Governments and the building industry.

There is a current process for consolidating and codifying into the Building Code, those requirements from other legislation which sets standards for design and construction of buildings.
