Advice on Requirements of food related codes and legislation - Queensland

Description

The Department of Health, through  Food Safety Standards and Regulation, Health Protection Unit and Public Health Units, assist food businesses to meet the legislative requirements relating to food.

Food Safety Standards and Regulation and Public Health Units provide advice on the requirements of the Food Act 2006 and the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code), particularly in the areas of food safety, food composition, packaging and labelling of foods.

Additional Information:

It is stressed that the licensing of food businesses is the responsibility of local governments under the Food Act 2006.  However, Safe Food Production Queensland (SFPQ) is responsible for accrediting primary producers and processors, such as butchers, abattoirs, smallgood factories, milk factories, egg producers and seafood producers in Queensland.  Note that a food business that is accredited by SFPQ may also be required to hold a food business licence, depending on other activities undertaken by the business.  SFPQ can be contacted by telephone on 1800 300 815.

Enquiries from outside Queensland should be directed to:
