Description

You need this authority to operate a registrable cathodic protection system.

All cathodic protection systems must be tested - even those that are not required to be registered.

Interference mitigation must be effected to the satisfaction of the ESO and there must be compliance with the prescribed electrical limits.

Duration

The registration of a registrable system remains in effect for 5 years, unless it is cancelled earlier.

Application process

You can apply for this registration by submitting a completed `Application to Register a Registrable Cathodic Protection System' to the ESO.

You must supply the following information if required:

  • a list of all points where tests were carried out, their location and change in potential of foreign structures resulting from operation of the system
  • information concerning systems operating in water or a marine environment required by the Department.

Transfer process

This authority can be transferred. You must accept conditions as stated on the initial application.

Additional information

An owner of a registered system whose name or address changes must give written notice of the change to the Department within 30 days of the change.

The applicable standard for cathodic protection, AS 2832 series (Cathodic protection of metals) must be adhered to in the systems design and installation.
