Commercial wildlife licence for live animals (birds, reptiles, spiders and scorpions/petshop) - Queensland


This licence is required to keep and use live protected animals (live scorpions, live spiders, live birds and/or and live reptiles) for a commercial purpose.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants should complete the Pre-design/pre-lodgement meeting application form and contact Permit and Licence Management for specialist advice.


This licence remains in effect for up to one month, one year or three years, depending on the applicants requirements and payment.

Application process

How Do I Obtain It?

You can obtain this licence by submitting a completed Application form "Commercial wildlife licence (live protected animals)", to Permit and Licence Management.

What is required after applying but before approval is granted?

Please note: A commercial wildlife licence for live reptiles cannot be granted unless the applicant (or someone proposing to operate under the applicants licence) has completed an approved course of training.

Important: A person who keeps a live protected animal must keep the animal in a secure cage or enclosure that prevents the animal's escape and ensure that the animal is supplied with sufficient shelter, ventilation, water, food and provided with opportunities for exercise.

Arrangements must be made with your local Wildlife Officer to inspect these facilities prior to the licence being granted.


This licence cannot be transferred.
