Emergency lighting licence - Queensland

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to do work to certify, inspect and test emergency lighting systems, of any value. This licence will allow you to work on emergency lighting systems to ensure they:

  • provide a level of illumination for safe evacuation in a fire emergency
  • provide identification of exit and paths of travel to an exit
  • safeguard occupants by making them aware of the fire emergency.

You can apply for this licence as a:

  • contractor - allows you to perform, supervise and enter into contracts for fire protection work
  • site supervisor - allows you to personally supervise work on behalf of a licensed contractor, but not to perform fire protection work
  • occupational licence - allows you to carry out fire protection work for a licensed fire protection contractor either as an employee or subcontractor.

Eligibility requirements

Your requirements will vary depending on your category of licence. To be eligible, you will need to meet the appropriate:

  • technical requirements
  • experience requirements

If you do not meet the technical qualifications, you may be able to obtain one through recognition of prior learning (RPL) by a registered training organisation (RTO). Please see the attached resources for specific information on these requirements.

If you are an interstate applicant, you may be eligible to obtain a licence through mutual recognition. If you are an international applicant, you may have to have an overseas qualification assessed for equivalency prior to applying.

To apply for this licence, you will need to fill out the licence application form, providing:

  • evidence of your qualifications
  • evidence of your experience
  • evidence of professional indemnity insurance
  • written references
  • financial information showing that you meet the minimum financial requirements
  • proof of identity
  • the applicable fees.

Approval time

Applications will take approximately 6 - 12 weeks to be processed, depending on their complexity.

Transfer

This licence cannot be transferred.
