This service is provided:

  • to provide the environmental, landscape and cultural heritage expertise necessary to manage the balance between economic development and the environment.
  • to assist in the development and maintenance of a set of technical policies, standards, manuals and specifications on environmental issues.
  • to undertake research and development to underpin the above.
  • to provide a specialist technical service for amelioration of negative environmental impacts.
  • to provide expert environmental and cultural heritage technical advice and support across the Department.
  • to provide expert environmental technical advice to the public sector for the general community.
  • to promote an increased awareness of 'quality of life' issues and timely consideration of their implications.

What Support is Provided?

The Department provides advice and assistance to local authorities, developers, consultants on legislative requirements of environmental matters on the development of transport infrastructure including road, rail, water and air.

Advice can be verbal or written reports.

No fees apply for initial verbal advice. Further advice or consultancy fees will be costed on a fee for service basis.
