Food Safety Auditor Approval - Queensland

Description

You must have this approval if you intend to audit accredited food safety programs and premises.

Food safety auditors:

  • provide advice to local government authorities about accreditation of food safety programs
  • conduct audits of accredited food safety programs and premises
  • prepare audit reports and provide copies to the relevant administering agency, local government authority and the holder of the accredited food safety program.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To become an approved auditor, you must provide evidence that you have successfully completed:

  • a certificate IV or higher in food science or a related field
  • 40 hours of recognised training in food microbiology
  • approved national competency units.

You must also demonstrate that you have the necessary expertise or experience to perform the functions of an auditor and are a suitable person to be an auditor.

To apply for approval as a food safety auditor you will need to determine in which food sector and under which Act you intend to conduct audits. 

Queensland Health oversees auditors under the Food Act 2006 for hospitals, nursing homes, childcare centres and catering activities.

Safe Food Queensland regulates auditors under the Food (Production) Safety Act 2000 for primary production operations such as butchers, dairies and egg producers. You will need to register online before completing the online application.
