Gas work authorisation (major project) - Queensland


This authorisation is required to carry out development and construction of an operating plant, or part of a plant, if the total gas capacity of the devices at the plant, or the part of the plant, is 50 GJ/hour or more.

Service type


A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.


This authorisation remains in effect for the term specified on the authorisation.

Application process

You can obtain this authorisation by submitting a completed Application for a gas work authorisation (major projects) Form PGA728AM), to your regional office.

The application fee is non-refundable and the authorisation fee must accompany the application.

If you are from interstate and overseas you can obtain information about how to obtain this authorisation from Petroleum and Gas Inspectorate.

Before approval is granted:

  • qualifications must be verified by the department
  • provide evidence of relevant training competencies to undertake the required gas work.


This authorisation cannot be transferred.
