Gas work licence (hydrocarbon refrigerants) - Queensland

Description

This licence is required to install, remove, alter, repair, service, test or certify the gas system of a device (i.e. charging, discharging or breaking into the refrigeration system) that uses hydrocarbon refrigerants.

Current holders of an interim licence are restricted to gas work based on the competencies held and on the manufacturer's products and gases as detailed on that manufacturer's training attendance certificate.

Eligibility requirements


You must:

  • hold a full ARC licence
  • hold relevant refrigeration competencies such as Certificate 3 Refrigeration Mechanic
  • For air conditioners, a Certificate 2 in Split Systems and Air Conditioning may be acceptable.

As there is now a recognised competency based training course available, interim licences are no longer issued.

To progress to a full licence, an interim licence holder will be required to undertake a recognised competency based training course in hydrocarbon refrigerants as listed in the Queensland gas work licence and gas work authorisation requirements document.

Duration

This licence remains in effect for the term specified on the licence.

Application process

You can obtain this licence by submitting a completed Application for a gas work licence(hydrocarbon refrigerant) form to your regional office. You must also provide certified copies of relevant qualifications.

Before approval is granted

  • your qualifications must be verified by the department
  • provide evidence of training in hydrocarbon (HC) refrigerants to the satisfaction of the Chief Inspector.

Transfer

This licence cannot be transferred.
