Requirements for this licence vary within the council areas.
Caloundra area:
Under councils Sunshine Coast planning scheme 2014 properties within the following precincts require a Material change of use code assessable application to establish a home based business:

low density residential

township residential
-
multi unit residential
-
mixed use residential
-
regional business centre (sub-precincts 1A, 1B, 2, 3B)

rural residential settlement precincts
-
emerging community (Pelican Waters) sub-precincts 1 and 3
Note: if the use is proposed to be a home office see Who does not need an approval from the councils website or contact council.
A home based business proposed in other precincts may require a Material change of use impact assessment.
Refer to Sunshine Coast planning scheme 2014 or contact council to determine the precinct of the specific property, any relevant city plan overlays and level of assessment required for the proposed home based business.
Certain home based businesses may be eligible for a risk smart assessment which enables the streamlining of the assessment process. Contact councils IDAS customer service officers to determine whether your proposed home based business is eligible.
Maroochy/Nambour area:
Approval for home based activities is required under the former Maroochy Shire Council planning scheme. Contact council for more information.
